Standard Operating Procedures and Official Policy
Regarding Medications, Alcohol, Marijuana, and Training
1. PURPOSE: Official Policy regarding the use of Medications, Alcohol, and Marijuana during events with 2nd Regiment.
2. SCOPE: Applies to ALL members of 2nd Regiment, active, recruit, observer and/or potential parties.
3. STANDARDS:
a. Prescription Medications
i. All members, regardless of rank or status, shall not be prevented from taking medication as required per doctor’s advice and prescription.
a. When a member is under a doctor’s care and prescribed medication, that member shall notify the Chain of Command of those medications.
b. The Chain of Command shall review medications prescribed to a member and make a determination whether prescribed medications impair a member enough, or pose a health risk when participating in the training. Command will consult Regiment Medical Staff to determine if members’ medication warrants special concern or training requirements.
i. Chain of Command, after careful consideration/observation, may issue waivers if an individual has proven the dosage/frequency of medication is not an impairing factor.
ii. Medications that may impair a members ability to properly control their weapon may result in that member not able to participate in live-fire training.
iii. Medications defined by the State of California and the American Medical Association as potentially impairing must be carefully monitored when weapons are concerned.
b. Prior to taking medications affecting mental state or potentially affecting members’ use of a weapon, members must place their weapons in their vehicle, properly secured in accordance with CA State Law and 2nd Regiment standards regarding safe storage and transport of weapons.
1. Weapons must be properly UNLOADED
2. Ammunition must be separate from Weapon
3. The vehicle must be locked.
b. Alcohol Use
i. If members of the legal drinking age choose to consume alcohol AFTER DUTY HOURS, members must, prior to consumption, place their weapons in their vehicle properly secured in accordance with CA State Law and 2nd Regiment standards regarding safe storage and transport of weapons.
a. Weapons must be UNLOADED
b. Ammunition must be separate from Weapon
c. The vehicle must be locked.
c. Marijuana Use
i. Marijuana is legal for recreational use in the State Of California, members must follow these practices.
a. If members of legal age choose to consume Marijuana AFTER DUTY HOURS, members must, prior to consumption, place their weapons in their vehicle properly secured in accordance with CA State Law and 2nd Regiment standards regarding safe storage and transport of weapons.
i. Weapons must be UNLOADED
ii. Ammunition must be separate from Weapon
iii. The vehicle must be locked.
b. Members who choose to consume Marijuana are advised to respect other members and if consumed by smoking, move downwind.
d. ANY Member who violates this policy is subject to disciplinary actions by the Chain of Command according to the by-laws of the 2nd Regiment.
i. First Offense: Depending on the severity, members may receive at the discretion of the Chain of Command either a Verbal and/or Written Reprimand.
ii. Second Offense: Depending on the severity, members may receive at the discretion of the Chain of Command either a Special Duty Assignment and/or Suspension from current training.
iii. Third Offense: Members will receive a Suspension from 2nd Regiment for 90 days, then Offense Probation for 90 Days
vi. If a member after 3 offenses, suspension, and probation, violates this policy again, the Member is permanently expelled from the 2nd Regiment and ineligible to return.
